Five Supplements To Take During IVF

Binto

If you are going through IVF or have an infertility diagnosis, we know it can be tough to figure out exactly what you need to be giving your body to best support your reproductive health. We are here to help!

At Binto, we believe knowledge is power, so in this article we will go over the best supplements for supporting your body through IVF.

First, CoQ10:

CoQ10, or Coenzyme Q10, is a naturally occurring enzyme that gives our cells energy. It’s also a powerful antioxidant that protects the body against harmful free radicals. It is widely used as a part of fertility treatment because it can help boost fertility in women and men. For someone going through IVF, CoQ10 is great because it has been shown to improve egg quality, and it can improve ovarian response to the stimulation involved in the IVF process.

Next…NAC!

N-acetyl-cysteine, otherwise known as NAC is another great anti-inflammatory antioxidant. If you have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, PCOS, or you’re trying to conceive, this supplement is a great one to add to your regime. NAC lowers insulin, decreases the amount of male hormones circulating in women with PCOS, and helps support healthy ovulation by regulating your menstrual cycles. It also helps thin your cervical mucus to help sperm pass through to fertilize the egg.

Moving on to DHA/EPA:

At Binto we LOVE DHA. This Omega-3 fatty acid is super important for fetal development. ACOG, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that all prenatals contain DHA/EPA (typically seen as “fish oil”), which is why we include it in our prenatal kits at Binto. Our DHA/EPA is made from algae oil, so it’s vegan! As part of our regular diet, we get DHA from fish, nuts, and seeds.

DHEA

Not to be confused with DHA, Dehydroepiandrosterone, or DHEA, is a hormone found in the human body. For women with diminished ovarian reserves or poor ovarian reserves, studies show that taking DHEA can improve the outcomes of IVF. While everyone can take DHA, you should not take DHEA unless your healthcare provider recommends it, and it should NOT be taken while pregnant.

Vitamin D

The sunshine vitamin! More and more research studies are looking into the connection between Vitamin D and fertility. Vitamin D essentially acts as a gene activator in your cells, turning them on and off. In your uterus, Vitamin D affects the genes in cells that make estrogen, which is super important for the successful implantation of an embryo. Studies show that women with higher levels of Vitamin D demonstrated increased pregnancy and successful implantation rates. Women who are Vitamin D deficient had significantly lower pregnancy rates.
